Ambition is a decision to pursue new heights.

It starts when one grounds their self into the essence of their history and persona to first understand where they fall short. Challenges then arise as hurdles of new environments, subjects, and grading systems for the individual to accept and overcome. For the average post-secondary student, these obstacles may feel overwhelming and difficult to manage at times. The pursuit of knowledge is never easy however, if one puts forth their best efforts to create the future they desire, it is more than possible to surmount such circumstances. The Scholar's Study is a residential design configured to host an ambitious individual who strategically balances schoolwork, relaxation, and entertainment within his/her hectic schedule.

Materiality plays a large role in conveying the concepts of The Scholar's Study. For instance, natural stone and wood were chosen to convey the importance of grounding oneself before making a major decision (ex. career choice). Other components, such as, the large concrete wall supporting the staircase to the upper level signifies the strength of knowledge and the heights it can reach.

Further, the inspiration for the architectural elements of the house stems from a stack of bookmarked textbooks. The slanted roof of the upper level reflects the opening of a book while the balcony and carport portray bookmarked pages.
