Mother Nature

The goal of this photograph is to capture the essence of humanity and nature together as one. The understanding of the affects these two powers can have on each other is common among most people. But many will separate nature from the context of humanity in their daily lives.

We have seen the impacts of global warming and the consequences of such drastic climate change. We have recognized that since the industrial revolution, the atmosphere has warmed significantly. One of the things people don't tend to realize is that until we stop trying to deviate from nature, the worse the consequences will be.

In recent years during my studies at Sheridan College, I have learned about the topics of sustainability, LEED and the Green Building Council. Regrettably, I have also learned the industry I am heading into is responsible for a large portion of greenhouse gas emissions and pollution. Therefore, it is even more imperative for prospective designers like myself to implement sustainable construction and materials within every project we come across.

The actions of one can inspire change for the many. As a collective group, we must work our best to strive for excellence in all fields from functionality to aesthetics, and to sustainability.

Because as much as humans like to draw a line between themselves and nature, we as a species are one of many other organisms on this Earth. We share the Earth's soil with all kinds of animals and plants. We interact with these entities on a daily basis.

We are not separate from nature. We are an integral part of it.
